The crematorium at Mountain Grove Cemetery, the first in Connecticut, was constructed in 1950. It is still one of the largest and finest crematoriums in the state. It was designed using Gothic architecture and it includes a committal chapel for cremations service with three cremation chambers. Committal services offered here are held with dignity and comfort in the chapel which accommodates up to eighty people.

✣ According to Connecticut state law there is a forty eight hour waiting period from the pronouncement of death to the time a cremation can take place. The use of a funeral director is mandatory, as they are licensed and trained in the proper handling and transportation of human remains. The funeral director also arranges for the type of services you may desire prior to cremation. The director is also licensed to obtain the necessary forms required by law which are the burial and transit permit, the death certificate, the medical examiner sign off and the actual cremation p ermit. Some of the forms require the signature of the next of kin as well as a signed cremation authorization form required by us.
